Sweet Child O' Mine

"Sweet Child O' Mine" started as a joke — Slash was just warming up his fingers with a string-skipping exercise when Izzy and Steven told him to keep playing it.

Axl Rose almost cut it from the record, calling the riff too sappy for a band trying to sound dangerous. Then he wrote lyrics about his girlfriend Erin Everly, and it became Guns N' Roses' only hit in the US.
