The Sound of Silence
Simon & Garfunkel

The Sound of Silence almost never existed as the record you know.
Paul Simon wrote it in 1964, but the acoustic version flopped and Simon & Garfunkel broke up. Then producer Tom Wilson quietly overdubbed electric guitar, bass and drums onto the exact same vocal take, without telling either of them, and released it as if nothing had changed.
It went to No. 1. Simon found out from the charts, not from Wilson.
Would you have been furious or thrilled if a producer rewrote your song behind your back?
