Fast Car

"Fast Car" just made history twice.

Tracy Chapman wrote it in 1988 about the life she knew, never expecting it to define a generation. In 2023, Luke Combs' cover sent it back to number one, making Chapman the first Black woman to write a number one country song as sole songwriter.

Same story of two people trying to outrun where they came from. Different decade, different genre, same gut-punch chorus.

Does this song hit different depending on who's singing it, or does the story stay the same?
