Comfortably Numb
Pink Floyd

Comfortably Numb almost didn't survive the fight that made it a classic.
Roger Waters wrote the lyrics from a real memory: a doctor's injection before a 1977 show, the crowd blurring into nothing while he played. David Gilmour wanted the guitar to carry the emotion instead of an orchestra, and pushed back on producer Bob Ezrin's strings to keep it that way.
The two men agreed on almost nothing else while making The Wall. This might be the last song where the tension actually helped the record.
Which guitar solo do you think beats this one, if any?
